Hector

Hector was a Trojan prince and also a soldier in the famous Trojan War.  Moreover, he was the Son of King Priam and Hecuba. Despite that he was not a war enthusiast, especially towards the Greece, he was a great soldier praised for his courageous character. Hector is also depicted as the greatest warrior of the Trojan army. The victory witnessed in the Trojan War was a result of his wisdom. This paper will relate the pre –Renaissance world and the contemporary society.

Hector was considered the greatest warrior among the Trojans. In the Trojan War, he fought bravely against the Greeks. Hector was ready to defend Troy during the Greek attack. He was a great hero among the Trojans. Moreover, he killed Protesilaus in a single combat at the beginning of the Trojan battle. This portrays him as a courageous man.

Hector was able to bring armies together and challenged the Greek warriors to battle. Achilles also states that Hector was a force that the Greek army had to reckon with. Hector also led the Trojans through the fight with the Greeks personally in single combats against the greatest Greek warrior (Homer, Fagles, and Knox 15)

He is portrayed as a noble soldier. When the Greeks arrived to avenge for the seduction of Helen, Hector stands firm ready to defend the Trojans. He singlehandedly killed the first Greek soldier to set foot in Troy, and he fought wholeheartedly, with great vigor against the Greek army.

Hector had killed 31000 Greek troops. This depicts him as a great warrior. However, he did everything in the name of war fulfilling his duties as a soldier. In the modern context, he appears as a common soldier while in the historical analysis Hector is a hero to reckon with. According to Greek mythology, he is also regarded to have had a healthy social life (Beekes 399). He was an obedient son as well as a loving father and husband. Therefore, he was social in both historical and contemporary period.

In the modern society, Hector would fit in as a soldier that is ready to defend his nation using all possible means. Despite being a warrior, he has also hands-on knowledge of road construction, first aid, and conflict resolution strategies. He is a strict person who is in pursuit of perfection and does not allow failures. He is also well versed in the modern techniques of getting things done in the best way possible. Moreover, Hector’s role is more social than to protect his nation’s boundaries; he was required to ensure peace and reconciliation.

War is a result of the government’s decisions in which Hector also works. He is a very gallant and courageous soldier who heartlessly sacrifices his life to protect his people, their land and the culture they adore. He is a great warrior known for his mastery in the use of rifles and explosives. Neighboring nations are aware of his legendary techniques and are ready to kill him at any cost. Scarifying his life, Hector exercises great caution in everything that he was doing. Having won many battles, he had received numerous accolades from the presidents and kings recognizing his achievements, efforts and endeavors (Encyclopedia Britannica. Encyclopedia Britannica Online). He was praised in his society for his social roles such as building of hospitals, schools, and roads.

Hector spends a lot of time away from his wife and children. Occasionally, when he returns from war, his children were anxious to see the presents from their father, whom they have not seen for a long time. Hector’s children are also taught various combat skills that may help them in the everyday life. The children are attending school where they learn different sciences and shape their future.

Having won many war, Hector proved his Great War skills that enable him assemble his troops, organize them correspondingly and train them on the antics of war. This allows him to become a great global troop leader in the United Nations. He can render his skills, talents and abilities to the whole of the African continent in the fight against terror groups that have wreaked havoc in the region. However, he has also fallen victim to posttraumatic stress disorder. This has led to difficulty in his social relationships with the family and friends and is caused by guilt, loss of fellow soldiers or graphic memories. The disorder is experienced by a large number of soldiers after a war. Counseling from a military psychology specialist would greatly assist him helping to return his life (Invisible Wounds: Mental Health and Cognitive Care Needs of America’s Returning Veterans 20). The advice should be also given to his family in order they can cope with behavioral change of Hector.

In the contemporary society, a soldier is required to be a courageous person who is able to put his life on the frontline for protecting his country and ensuring that the results are successful. In the modern society, Hector is praised for his great spirit in war and receives honors from the high and mighty persons. His efforts also grant him international recognition in all circles of the society.

In the traditional society, Hector is also portrayed as a courageous gallant warrior who single-handedly leads his army to war. Moreover, he challenges enemies in a single combat against the Greeks and delivers victory. In the contemporary society, he is well skilled with army positioning knowledge and conflict resolution strategies. He participates in various battlegrounds and delivers success irrespective of climates and changing environments. He has achieved success in a neighboring land against the Greeks.

In both societies, there is high prestige bestowed on a soldier. There is recognition that comes from the state, family, and friends. In the Trojan War, Hector was slain by Achilles in revenge for a friend’s death. Aphrodite and Apollo preserved it to avoid rotting off. Had he survived, he would have been subject to praise from the king and the elites. Even after death, his name is very important in the Greek history books (Lee 59).

Wars have relevance in both the historical and contemporary times. In the ancient times, they were mainly to conquer new territories. Therefore, they would expand their boundaries to the neighboring regions. In the contemporary age, they are primarily for peacekeeping purposes. United Nations are involved to maintain order, especially to protect nations from terrorist groups. The countries fight to defend their boundaries. War within the countries’ boundaries is between the government and rebel groups. This is caused by them to control the resources in a country. It can also be a result of the government’s corruption or greed by the rebel groups. Hector’s role in both time periods is very relevant.

Soldiers’ roles have evolved with time. In the past, they were only involved in the war. However, nowadays  they are vital to supply humanitarian aid to war-torn territories. If Hector, lived today, he would adjust to the changing times. Therefore, Hector would perfectly fit into the contemporary society due to his courageous and noble character. His role in the society would be vital.
