The relationship between religion and society is a matter of concern for all world religions. Among such men were Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Abduh, Sayyid Ahmad Khan, and Rashid Rida. These two groups, the pre-modernist revivalists, and the modernist movements believe in the five pillars of Islam. This would foster a better relationship between the society and religion, as a whole. According to modern Muslims, abiding by all societal rules would go a long way in making a clear cutline between religion and society.
In conclusion, most people in the society consider religion to be a tremendous hindrance in the lives of people, attached to religion. Some rules and principles differ among various religions, and thus, create a conflict of interests. However, addressing various political, moral, constitutional, and societal issues would solve the disagreements between religion and society. Modern Muslims have tried to address these challenges from the beginning of the 20th century, through forming associations and creating movements to address these challenges. All in all, a proper relationship between society and religion should be developed. Society should respect the religious beliefs and guidelines to morality. At the same time, religion should respect the societal rules. Constitutional laws, which govern matters that are not strictly in line with the Islamic religion, should also be given the first priority.
Finally, science and technology play a pivotal role in the development of any society. The Islamic faith, therefore, should align itself with the technological aspects of the society to develop and avoid conflict with religion. This will ultimately foster a healthy relationship between the society and religion.
